On Friday, Feb. 12, Highland Police were conducting extra patrols in response to recent mail thefts. At 4 a.m., officers stopped a black Ford Focus for a vehicle code violation near the intersection of Weaver Street and Bright Spot Road.
A license check showed the driver, Jennie You, 27, of Murrieta, to be on active probation driving on a suspended license.
That led to a search of the vehicle, which turned up stolen mail, stolen credit cards, fake Social Security cards, stolen and forged checks, counterfeit money, and computer equipment to create false documents. Deputy Robert Quiroz and Detective Matt Mayer also reported You was in possession of notebooks containing hundreds of names, Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses of potential victims. Investigators say the vehicle also contained pry bars and tools believed used to gain access to mail boxes.
Both You and passenger Lorenzo Brambila, 22, of San Bernardino were booked into Central Detention Center on charges of identity theft, forgery, and possession of stolen property. In addition, You was charged with violation of probation.
