In fact, the Fontana resident published her first children’s book last year, titled “Sky’s the Limit: The Drama Queen.”googleoff: all
The book, published in June by Xlibris, tells the story of a little girl whose friends laugh at her when she tells them about her aspirations of becoming a famous playwright.googleoff: all
The book, which she sells through her publisher, Barnes & Noble and Amazon, has many similarities to Skylynn’s life, in that she also was teased and bullied by other children for her passion for writing children’s books.googleoff: all
Still, the Heritage Intermediate School sixth-grader pressed forward and already had finished the second book in her “Sky’s the Limit” series.googleoff: all
She hopes that “Sky’s the Limit: The Beauty Queen,” is published soon.googleoff: all
“When I write, I get to express myself through what I write,” Skylynn said. “You get to tell a story.”googleoff: all
Although writing is something she loves, crafting a book is not an easy feat, she acknowledged. The honor roll student squeezes in writing after she finishes her homework. Her goal is to help motivate other young girls to have confidence in themselves and what they can accomplish.googleoff: all
Skylynn’s mother, Nykisha Ellison, said her daughter was in the first grade when she began writing. She entered several play-writing competitions at her school and won awards, Ellison said.googleoff: all
Ellison recalled competitions in which the prize was actors taking the stage and performing Skylynn’s work. It was an experience that stayed with Skylynn, too.googleoff: all
“It was really cool seeing them on stage acting out the stories I wrote in class,” she said.googleoff: all
One day, Skylynn approached her mother and said she wanted to write a book.googleoff: all
“I was like, ‘If you think you can, go ahead and give it a shot,’” Ellison said.googleoff: all
Skylynn’s passion for writing stems from her love of reading.googleoff: all
“She can read a 500-page book in two days,” Ellison said. “She escapes into it. She can’t put it down.”googleoff: all
Skylynn also loves to watch television and aspires to be an actor, in addition to a writer. She also competed in her first pageant last year.googleoff: all
“It was fun,” she said. “I liked the dressing up and being on stage.”googleoff: all
Ellison said her daughter has many dreams, including becoming a model and a judge.googleoff: all
“What I really would like of for her to teach other kids to write,” Ellison said, “to teach them how to express themselves.”
