A head-on crash killed a motorist before dawn along a major road through the high desert city of Hesperia, sheriff's officials say.
The wreck was reported at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, along Bear Valley Road near Third Street, about two-thirds of a mile west of Hesperia Road.
A man was driving a Chevy Malibu west when he drifted into the oncoming lanes and hit an eastbound Ford Focus, sheriff's officials said in a written statement.
The woman driving the Ford died at the scene. Coroner's officials had not released her name by late afternoon.
The man in the Malibu was flown to Antelope Valley Hospital.
Bear Valley Road was closed for seven hours between Second and Third Avenues.
