A pedestrian tangled with a Metrolink passenger train during the evening commute in or near Rancho Cucamonga but managed to survive, according to Metrolink and San Bernardino County sheriff's officials.
The accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, June 17. Initially it was believed to have happened near a railroad crossing just north of Vineyard Avenue and Eighth Street in Rancho Cucamonga, but Metrolink officials later said it may have happened closer to Upland.
The victim had been walking on the railroad tracks and suffered what appeared to be a broken leg, a sheriff's deputy reported.
San Bernardino Line Train 326 didn't stop.
"The train crew didn't believe they had struck the individual," said Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson, who coincidentally was a passenger on that train.
The Los Angeles-to-San Bernardino commuter train finished its run shortly after 7:15 p.m. in San Bernardino.
