Police investigate city's 30th homicide
A man in front of the liquor store in the 2600 block of West Foothill Boulevard was approached by another man in a van shortly before 4 p.m., according to San Bernardino police Lt. Rich Lawhead. The man in the van opened fire, shooting the victim multiple times with a rifle. He then got out of the van, stood over the victim and continued to shoot the victim several more times, Lawhead said.
The gunman fled the scene in the van, police said. He remains at large.
As police worked the scene Monday afternoon, cars drove by on Foothill Boulevard, some had drivers and passengers holding phones to record the police activity.
Patrons of nearby businesses were also being questioned.

The neighborhood where the homicide took place is the same neighborhood where uniformed officers were ambushed by three gunmen in late April.
“The officers were in an unmarked vehicle in an alley,” Lt. Rich Lawhead said in April. “They exited the unmarked patrol vehicle to return fire.”
After cordoning off streets and searching with ground and helicopter units, three men were arrested in that case.
