Teen leads deputies on pursuit through San Bernardino in alleged stolen vehicle

SAN BERNARDINO >> A 16-year-old San Bernardino boy was arrested after leading deputies on a pursuit through San Bernardino in a reportedly stolen vehicle, officials said.

The unidentified boy was arrested Friday afternoon after he crashed the black Honda Civic he was driving into a signal light on Harry Sheppard Boulevard near Tippecanoe Avenue, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s statement.

A deputy spotted the car near Rialto Avenue and Lena Road and tried to stop it for vehicle code violations, officials said. There were three people inside. Instead of stopping, the driver — later identified as the 16-year-old — drove off at a high rate of speed east on Rialto Avenue.

The teen ran several stop signs and red lights before turning south on Tippecanoe Avenue, officials said.

The boy tried to turn right on Harry Sheppard Boulevard and crashed.

Deputies held all three people who were inside the vehicle and determined that the 16-year-old allegedly refused to stop because the vehicle was stolen.

The teen was arrested and booked into juvenile hall.
