Armando Contreras A Fontana man accused of breaking into teen’s bedroom in rape attempt

FONTANA >> A 57-year-old Fontana man is behind bars after he allegedly broke into a 16-year-old’s bedroom and tried to have sex with her, Fontana police officials said.

“The victim woke up with the suspect standing over her, and she screamed, which startled the suspect, and he fled from the home and was detained by police a short distance from the victim’s home,” said Sgt. Brian Heaviside.

Armando Contreras was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape, burglary and annoying a child, according to San Bernardino County sheriff’s booking logs. On July 20, Contreras met and was chatting with the teen during the day in the 11000 block of Oleander Avenue, said Heaviside. Contreras was staying with relatives that lived nearby the victim.

Later that night, Contreras went out drinking, officials said.

“When he came home, he saw the victim’s window was open,” said Heaviside. He climbed through the window with the intentions of having sex with the victim.”

Following his arrest, he was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office so far has only filed burglary charges against the man. He’s pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, booking records show warrants have been issued for the attempted rape and annoying-a-child offenses.

Contreras is scheduled to be back in West Valley Superior court in Rancho Cucamonga Monday for the burglary case.
