SAN BERNARDINO >> Police are searching for information in the city’s latest shooting, which left a 24-year-old man dead Wednesday night, officials said.
John Eric Ramirez of San Bernardino was found lying on the ground around 10:45 p.m. at La Plaza Park at Seventh Street and Mount Vernon Avenue with at least one gunshot wound to the chest, according to a San Bernardino police news release. Ramirez is the 41st person to die in the city due to violence.
He was found near a small bicycle on the west side of the gazebo at the park’s center. After about 15 minutes, paramedics drove Ramirez to San Bernardino Community Hospital, where he later died.
Investigators found a crime scene in an alley across the street. However, police say they have minimal information and are looking for eyewitnesses to the shooting.
A motive for the shooting was not clear and authorities will not say whether they believe the homicide was gang-related, however, did say Ramirez was “known” to law enforcement.
