SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - An 18-year-old Newbury Park man was charged July 28 with making terrorist threats against fellow students at Universal Technical Institute in Rancho Cucamonga.
Albert Maida was charged with two felony counts of Terrorist Threats, two felony counts of Stalking and one felony count of Falsely Reporting a Bomb. If convicted as charged, he faces four years and four months in state prison.
On June 13, the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department received a call from UTI Technical School regarding threats that Maida made to several students over the course of several weeks. As a result of his actions, he was suspended and removed from the campus.
After investigators determined that Maida's statements and actions fulfilled the elements for criminal threats, an arrest warrant was issued as well as a search warrant for his residence in Ventura County.
On June 17, Maida was arrested and transported to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Station. During the search of Maida's residence, deputies seized several firearms from the location.
He bailed out on $50,000 bond.
After further investigation, charges were filed and an arrest warrant was issued Thursday. The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating Albert Maida. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact Sgt. Paul Schaefer at (909) 477-2883.
This is an ongoing criminal case and no further details will be released at this time.
"In today's world, we have an obligation to take these types of threats seriously for the sake of not only the students and staff at UTI, but for all citizens," said District Attorney Mike Ramos. "This type of behavior cannot and will not be tolerated."
