San Bernardino women accused of elder abuse, ID theft of Rancho Cucamonga woman

RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> Two San Bernardino women were arrested Thursday, suspected of stealing from a senior citizen they were caring for, sheriff’s officials announced.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m. Julie Aguilar and Mercedes Pettegrew, both 26, were arrested at a home in the 5200 block of Little Mountain Drive, San Bernardino. Jail records show they were booked into West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of theft of an elderly person, identity theft and conspiracy to defraud an elderly person. Both have been released on bail.

The unidentified victim found discrepancies in her checking account to the tune of $2,700.

Due to the discrepancy, the victim decided to dig further and found more money missing.

Sheriff’s detectives began looking into the matter and uncovered evidence they allege implicates Aguilar and Pettegrew, who were caregivers for the victim.

Detectives found more than $14,000 missing from the victim’s personal accounts, according to a sheriff’s news release.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call detectives at 909-477-2800.
