MORENO VALLEY, Calif.
A California Board of Equalization official has resigned after tweeting an anti-Hillary Clinton photo from the Riverside County Republican Party's official Twitter account. The tweet, which prompted criticism from people on both sides of the political aisle, shows a picture of an executioner holding a noose above the phrase "I'm Ready for Hillary." Nathan Miller, a Board of Equalization deputy district director in the Inland Empire, submitted his resignation after admitting that he published the controversial image Wednesday. "Our political candidates are crazy right now, so it doesn't surprise me," said Melissa Kurtz of Lake Elsinore, who was shown the tweet Thursday. "I just take it as they don't like Hillary," said Marty Wallace, a Chino Hills resident. "Neither do I, so it's OK." Scott Mann, chairman of the Riverside County Republican Party, issued an apology for the social media post. "I was horrified and had the tweet taken down immediately," Mann said in a statement. "While some may think it was a political satire, it clearly has no place in American political dialogue." The chairman of the county Democratic Party, Howard Katz, said Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was indirectly responsible for such campaign rhetoric. "If you listen to the comments made by Mr. Trump, he is soliciting this kind of behavior from the people that are listening to him," Katz said.
