Dive Team Recovers Drowning Victim – GoFundMe Account Established

Lake Arrowhead, CA – The San Bernardino County Coroner has identified the man who drowned in Grass Valley Lake on Monday as 39-year-old Jose Sotelo-Vizcaino, a resident of Rim Forest.

The media advisory indicates that Sotelo-Vizcaino swam into the lake to retrieve a disabled radio-controlled boat and did not return to shore.

His body was recovered about 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team.

Deputies from the Twin Peaks Station are investigating the incident, the release noted.

UPDATE 4: Tuesday, August 30 – 11:05 a.m.

Lake Arrowhead, CA – The body of a Hispanic male has been recovered from Grass Valley Lake in Lake Arrowhead by Sheriff’s Department Dive Team members.

“The male victim,” Lieutenant Bryan Lane told ROTWNEWS.com,”probably in his mid 30’s , was recovered by Dive Team members about 9:45 a.m.”

Family members were present when the man’s body was recovered.

The San Bernardino County Corner just arrived on scene about 10:20 a.m.

THE SEARCH

Lt. Lane told ROTWNEWS.com that divers were in the water4 until after 8 p.m. Monday and then back in the water this morning.

The Sheriff’s Department mobile command post was located in Grass Valley Parik.

“We had two divers in the water this morning,” Lt. Lane noted, “and about 12 personnel working the incident.”

UPDATE 3: Tuesday, August 30 – 9:26 a.m.

Lake Arrowhead, CA – Divers have resumed the search in Grass Valley Lake off Golf Course Road in Lake Arrowhead for a possible drowning victim.

The search began Monday evening and was called off due to darkness and has resumed again this morning.

UPDATE 2: Monday, August 29 – 8:45 p.m.

Lake Arrowhead, CA – The Grass Valley Lake incident has transitioned to recovery operation. Efforts to resume in the morning according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

UPDATE: Monday, August 29 – 7:35 p.m.

Lake Arrowhead, CA – Multiple units from the San Bernardino County Fire Department and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department remain on scene on Golf Course Road related to a possiblw drowning in Grass Valley Lake.

A Sheriff’s Aviation unit joined the search a short time ago.

The incident first began about 5:30 p.m.

Lake Arrowhead, CA – The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team began a search for a possible drowning victim about 6:35 p.m. Monday in Grass Valley Lake adjacent to the Lake Arrowhead Country Club.
