Southern California is on the fringes of some weather-makers and the result is generally more of the status quo. Only some slight temperature changes are likely the next several days. Hurricane Newton has been downgraded to a tropical storm as it marches up the Gulf of California and re-curves into Southern Arizona. Although it will further weaken to a tropical depression, southern and eastern Arizona are in for a lot of rain. Its only impact on Southern California will be some afternoon clouds over the mountains and deserts Thursday and a few isolated thunderstorms in the Colorado River Valley. For the rest of the Southland, afternoons will gain or lose a few degrees under a non-descript weather pattern through Saturday. Another low pressure trough will move out of the Pacific Northwest next week bringing a cooling trend and a deeper marine layer.
The valleys and Inland Empire will have morning fog and cooling temperatures as highs drop to 86 degrees.
