A framed picture of 18-year-old Luis Quintanar with his 3-year-old niece, Mia, was part of a memorial set up Sunday outside Central Community Church on Arlington Avenue in Riverside, where Quintanar was shot and killed during a confrontation shortly after 1 a.m.
A suspect has been arrested in the shooting that left an 18-year-old dead in a Riverside church parking lot late last month.
Thomas Ryan Scott, a 30-year-old Riverside man, was arrested on suspicion of killing Luis Quintanar on Aug. 28, Officer Ryan Railsback said in a news release sent early Friday morning.
Quinatar was waliking with friends in the parking lot of the Central Community Church off of Arlington Avenue about 1:15 a.m. when a man approached them from behind.
The suspect began arguing with Quinatar. The argument escalated into a physical fight before the suspect fired a shot into the air. Friends say Quinatar tried to diffuse the situation but the suspect fired one shot into his chest at close range and ran away.
Scott was arrested late Thursday night on suspicion of murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance for transport or sale and parole violation, jail records show.
He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center early Friday morning. Bail is not an option.
