REDLANDS >> The University of Redlands is among more than a dozen Southern California colleges and universities in U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 Best Colleges rankings, released Tuesday.
The university is included on the regional universities west rankings:
• The University of Redlands is No. 12, tied with the University of Dallas.
• Cal Poly Pomona is ranked 31.
• Cal State Long Beach is No. 35, tied with Master’s College and Seminary.
• Cal Baptist is No. 37, tied with Cal State Chico.
• La Sierra University is ranked 50th.
• Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino are part of a six-way tie for 61st, along with Cal State Stanislaus, Eastern Washington University, Hawaii Pacific University and the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
• Bringing up the rear, Cal State Northridge is ranked 68th, in a five-way tie with Corban University, Northwest University, Southern Utah University and Texas A&M International University.
NATIONAL UNIVERSITIES
Pasadena’s California Institute of Technology is the top-ranking Southern California university on thenational universities list, tied for No. 12 along with Northwestern University. It’s the second-ranking California university on the national universities list, though, as Stanford University is tied for No. 5 with Columbia University.
Bruins and Trojans have something new to argue about: The magazine ranks the University of Southern California as the No. 23 national university and the University of California Los Angeles at 24, tied with the University of Virginia.
UC Irvine is ranked 39th, UC San Diego is ranked 44th, Pepperdine University is tied at 50 with Penn State, UC Riverside is No. 118, San Diego State is No. 146, the University of La Verne is ranked 152, Azusa Pacific University is No. 183 and Cal State Fullerton is ranked 202.
The magazine doesn’t rank national colleges beyond 220 — a 12-way tie between Benedictine University, Cal State Fresno, Gardner-Webb University, New Mexico State, Shenandoah University, Tennessee Tech, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth, the University of Missouri at St. Louis, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the University of Southern Missouri and Utah State — but it does include more colleges as part of specialized and regional lists.
Claremont Colleges
None of the five undergraduate Claremont Colleges made the national rankings. Instead, they appear on the national liberal arts colleges list. Pomona College was tied for No. 7 with Carleton College, followed by Claremont McKenna College at No. 9, Harvey Mudd tied in 21st place with Wesleyan University, Scripps College in 23rd and Pitzer College at 32 on the list.
