Hesperia man arrested on suspicion of rape, accused of having sex with unconscious woman

HESPERIA — A 28-year-old Hesperia man was behind bars on suspicion of rape and is expected to be arraigned in a Victorville courtroom Tuesday afternoon.

Prosecutors charged Ricardo Enrique Gonzalez with felony counts of rape of an unconscious victim and intent to commit mayhem, rape, sodomy or oral copulation, court records show. He is scheduled to appear before a judge at 1:30 p.m.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department received a report on Saturday at 5:16 a.m., of a rape that occurred at a residence home at the 18000 block of Sequoia Street in Hesperia. The victim and her friends reportedly met a man, later identified as Gonzalez, while drinking at a local bar and later went back to his home in Hesperia, officials said.

The victim went to sleep in another room while Gonzalez and the victim’s friends hung out in another room. Later that night, Gonzalez excused himself to take a shower but had been gone for some time and the friends went to check on the victim.

Authorities said the friends entered the room she was sleeping in and witnessed Gonzalez having sex with the unconscious victim. The friends grabbed the victim and fled the residence and reported the incident, officials said.

After hours of "thorough" investigation, detectives from the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station obtained a search warrant for Gonzalez’s residence and located both evidence and the suspect.

Gonzalez was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto Sunday at approximately 1:17 a.m., on charges of raping an unconscious victim with a bail of $250,000.

The investigation was ongoing, sheriff's officials said.
