Delicious pistachios can be found during the annual Newberry Springs Pistachio Festival on Saturday.
Now in its 20th year, the Newberry Springs Chamber of Commerce has held the Pistachio Festival annually to help shine light on local growers and artisans.
“It brings the community together and gives us a chance to interact with each other,” Newberry Springs Chamber of Commerce member Paula Deel said.
Despite only two pistachio vendors scheduled to attend, there will be thousands of shelled nuts in many different flavors on hand.
The festival typically brings in hundreds of attendees each year, with guests able to taste-test or purchase the various pistachios on display.
Though Pistachio growers will be the stars of the event, other local venders and artisans are scheduled to attend as well. Amongst the locals will be Roman Nose Tacos and Indian Fry Bread. Craft vendors will be selling a wide-range of items, including jewelry, canes, grocery bag creations and more.
“We have attendees from other communities as well and they get a chance to see what some of our growers and artisans have to offer,” Deel said.
The Newberry Springs Pistachio Festival is open to all ages and will feature a Miniature Animals exhibit, a photo opportunity and free games.
“There will be music all day and Newberry’s own Hay Fever band will play in the afternoon,” Deel said.
The Newberry Springs Chamber of Commerce donates all proceeds raised during the festival back into the community through public events and more.
“Chamber of Commerce funds are used for our community. In addition to the Pistachio Festival, we sponsor the Pumpkin Patch and the Christmas House Decorating Contest,” Deel said.
The Newberry Springs 20th annual Pistachio Festival is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Newberry Community Center and Park located at 30884 Newberry Road. For more information, visitwww.pistachiofestival.com.
