60-year-old man suspected of raping woman in Adelanto

A 60-year-old man was arrested earlier this week in connection to the rape of a 22-year-old woman in May, San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials announced Friday.

Earl Wayne Wyatt of Adelanto was arrested on suspicion of rape after sheriff’s officials were able to connect him to the crime through DNA evidence, according to a sheriff’s news release.

The sexual assault, which reportedly took place at Wyatt’s home in the 11700 block of Chamberlaine Way, was initially reported to the sheriff’s Victor Valley station at 11:30 p.m. May 22, the release states.

The victim reported that she had gone to Wyatt’s motorhome with a friend and was able to getaway after the alleged rape took place, officials said in the release.

Wyatt allegedly chased the victim until she ran into the nearby intersection of Chamberlaine Way and Jonathan Street where she yelled for help. According to the release, Wyatt saw a sheriff’s patrol unit and fled the area.

DNA evidence collected during the investigation connected Wyatt to the crime Oct. 17 and he was arrested on Oct. 18 at his home after being interviewed. Wyatt was then booked at the High Desert Detention Center and is being held without bail since is currently on probation, according to the release.
