San Bernardino man arrested in Redlands knife attack also wanted for sexually abusing teen

A San Bernardino man arrested in Redlands in an attempted robbery and knife attack was also wanted for sexually abusing a teen girl, according to Redlands police and court records.

Redlands detectives arrested Briam Lasaro Quintanilla-Garcia, 20, at his San Bernardino home Nov. 2 in connection with a botched robbery Oct. 1 in which the 38-year-old victim refused to give up his property and was slashed by Quintanilla-Garcia, according to Carl Baker, spokesman for the police department. The attack took place in the 300 block of N. Sixth Street, officials said.

Authorities later learned the 20-year-old had San Bernardino County sheriff’s arrest warrants for rape, great bodily injury on a person, oral copulation on a child under the age of 16 and contacting a minor for a sexual offense. Those crimes reportedly took place in May in San Bernardino, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint alleges Quintanilla-Garcia sexually abused a girl who is listed as over 14 but under the age of 16 on May 23.

Quintanilla-Garcia was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on the arrest warrants and on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Redlands attack, records show.

He has subsequently pleaded not guilty to all charges and is scheduled to be back in San Bernardino Superior Court Nov. 14, court records indicate.
